Busy Bee Newsletter for Sept.22-26

Hi Families,
Last week recap:We are starting to really come together as a class, we are seeing lots of great socialization and kids making new friends. Last week we also visited the folks over at Kindred. We will be going once a month, Wednesdays or Thursday. Parents are welcome to come along anytime.
Last week we also started taking home bookbags. These books are from our classroom bookshelf and after being read at home, returned to school in the book bag. The kids will choose a new book and bring that home. Thanks for supporting this very important activity.
We also have been sending home “letter sharing” bags. These bags should come back to school with ONE item that begins with the letter on the bag. Then thats it for that bag/Week. We’ll keep doing these for a while as long as kids are still interested and engaged.
This week activities: We are going to start talking about the changing seasons and Fall. The first day of Fall is this week so we will be learning about what happens with the Fall season. Our art projects will be leaf related as we paint, watercolor and create Fall trees. We will be writing the word Fall and drawing some pictures to go in our portfolios. Our math activity this week will be counting and sorting leaves. The Sensory table will have some fun water beads in it and we will learn a new song about Fall.
Carnival: The LAPSK all school carnival is coming Oct.3rd! Pre-sale tickets for food and game bracelets go on sale this week. Our classroom is responsible for the “Angry birds” game. There is a sign up sheet for volunteering to help run this game. This will go towards your 2 hrs of volunteer time. We also will have food, a chili cook-off(any one can participate) and 2 bounce houses. Invite your friends and family and come join the fun!
Picture Day: Picture day is coming ! We will be doing individual and classroom pictures on Tuesday Oct 7th at 10:15. The order forms will be in cubbies this week. We will declare a “Non-messy” day in class, so its safe to send kids in nicer clothes.
Newsletter:  The weekly classroom newsletter will be posted on the website each Sunday by 5pm . Also you can have it emailed to you or the link texted via “Remind” on your smart phone. Reading the newsletter each week will keep you informed of upcoming school events and classroom activities.
Sickness: If your Busy Bee is sick, please call the school office or text me. Remember to keep kids home if they are running a fever, have a runny nose with mucus or a constant cough that they cant keep covered. If they cant participate in our class activities, let them stay at home and get better. Thanks for your help in keeping illness to a minimum .

Busy Bee Newsletter for Sept.15-19

Hi Families,
This last week went by so quickly! We spent our time making some new friends, exploring all the fun stuff in our room and making chocolate chip cookies. This next week we will start some “work time” so we can get a feel for where everyone is with their cutting and writing skills. We’ll do some letter and number recognition activities as well. Your Busy Bee’s are really catching on fast to classroom routines and being in charge of themselves. We want to create independent kids who can solve problems and do things for themselves. With that said, we would like the kids to check their own cubbies, get out papers and even pack their own backpack when class is over. These are things that they will be responsible for in Kindergarten.
This week will will start using book bags to borrow books from the classroom bookshelf. They will bring home a book to share with you, please read the book to them at least once and then return it the next school day. This is a good thing to let them be responsible for, give them the chance to see what that feels like. We will talk about this in class and how to treat a book and keep it safe. Thank you for your support with this and letting your busy bee Buzz on!
Add A day: With the local public schools all going to All day Kindergarten, we feel it is a better transition for kids in a preK class to go at the least 3 days but most preferable 4 or 5. Please consider adding a day for your Busy Bee. Stronger social bonds are made, more academic progress and self confidence occur when kids are exposed to the repetition of multiple days. We have different projects and activities happening each day in our classroom. Let me know if you have any questions or would like to add a day.
Gerbils: We have our two Gerbils as our classroom pets, Oreo and Butterscotch. They cannot stay in the building over the weekend, so we have a sign up sheet for them to go home with families. They are very easy keepers, they don’t have to be held or have their cage cleaned. Feeding is easy and they are very busy , entertaining fellas. Let me know if you have any questions about this or if you would like to take a turn to “Gerbil sit”.
Picture Day: Picture day is coming ! We will be doing individual and classroom pictures on Oct 6,7 or 9th. Watch for more info regarding prices and which day will be our classroom group picture day. This is a different date than I put in last weeks newsletter. This is the new updated date.
Bike helmets: Remember to send a helmet to school for your child if they would like to ride on trikes or scooters during outside play. Bikes are out on sunny days.
Newsletter:  The weekly classroom newsletter will be posted on the website each Sunday by 5pm . Also you can have it emailed to you or the link texted via “Remind” on your smart phone. Reading the newsletter each week will keep you informed of upcoming school events and classroom activities.
Kindred: Our school walks across the street once a month to sing to the residents at Kindred. These are mostly older folks who are unable to stay alone in their homes due to health issues. They love having the kids come and sing to them. We call them the “Grandmas and Grandpas” and let the kids know how happy it makes these folks to have us visit. Parents are welcome to join us any time. It will be this week on Wed and Thurs. Sept 17 & 18 @ 10:15 AM.
Contact info: Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns. I am fine with a text or a call or you can email. I am here to help you and your child have a great school year and feel honored that you have chosen us for your family’s preschool experience.

Busy Bee Newsletter for Sept.8-12

Hi Families,
Everyone had a great first day in the Busy Bee Class. We did a bunch of exploring the classroom and getting to know some new friends. This week we will continue with both of those things and talk about cooperation and working together. We’ll also get some feedback from the kids about what kinds of things they would like to learn about and choose a theme to start off the next few weeks of school.
Add a Day: We have openings on all days if you would like to add a day for your Busy Bee. Most kindergarten programs in public schools are an all day/5 days a week. I have found it is an easier transition for kids when they have been going to preschool at least three days a week, but also have seen a big difference in progress socially when they come 4 or 5 days. Let me know if you are considering adding a day or two for your child or if you have questions about this. We would also have openings for new students, so if you know any families that need a good preschool please have them check us out.
Volunteering:  There is a sign up sheet in the hallway for classroom volunteering. I really love having parents be involved in our classroom and what we do here. It can be fun to watch your child interact with friends or work on a project. If you cant come into class, there are also take home volunteer opportunities.
Bikes: If the weather stays nice we will have bikes out by the end of the week. If your child wants to ride, they must have a correctly fitting helmet that they bring to school. Please put your child’s name on it. Also have them wear appropriate shoes for outside play.
Paperwork: If you have not returned the registration paperwork for your child, please do so quickly. These papers are important for us to keep kids safe and so you can be contacted if we need to. You can download/print them from the website and either give to me in class or turn them into the preschool office.
Picture Day: Picture day is coming ! We will be doing individual and classroom pictures the week of September 22nd. Watch for more info regarding prices and which day will be our classroom group picture day.
Classroom supplies   Several families have donated classroom supplies. Donating classroom supplies can be used as part of your volunteer hours that are required and it is really great to get that support from families.
Portfolio: Each Busy Bee will need a 1 inch 3 ring white binder for their portfolio of the school year. We will be putting papers , projects, artwork and samples of name writing in these and take them home at the end of the school year in June. I have found that these are a great way to keep some work and not worry about saving everything they do through the year.
This month it will be on Wed and Thurs. Sept 17 & 18 @ 10:15 AM.
Contact info: Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns. I am fine with a text or a call or you can email. I am here to help you and your child have a great school year and feel honored that you have chosen us for your family’s preschool experience.

Welcome to the Busy Bee Classroom!

Hello Busy Bee Families,

We are getting our classroom ready for a new school year and are so excited to have you be a part of the journey. Open house will be Wednesday August 27th from 9:00-11:00 AM. This is a great time to get your child comfortable with the classroom and meet the teachers. It also will give you a chance to ask questions or tell me of concerns you may have. Please plan on dropping in and saying hello.Classes will begin on Thursday September 4th.

Welcome to the Busy Bee Classroom!

Hello Families,
Thank you for letting me be a part of your child’s pre-school experience.  My name is Kim Rivoli and I will be the teacher in the Busy Bee classroom this year. I am very excited about the year ahead and about getting to know you and your child.
First let me tell you a bit about myself.  I have my Associates degree in Early Childhood Education from Clark College and have 27 years experience teaching young children.  I have been here at Little Acorn Preschool and Kindergarten for 13 years.  I previously spent 5 years teaching the three year-olds in the Star Class before taking the Busy Bee class. I am married and my husband Rob and I have three kids.  Travis who is 27, Derek is 24 and just getting married this summer and a daughter, Nicole is 19 and attends Central washington University  in Ellensburg.  We are proud Grandparents! Our son Travis and his wife have two boys,Paxton who is 3 and Oliver who is 4 months old. I'll try not to do too much bragging, but it really is amazing being a Grandma! We live in Ridgefield on a few acres and have two dogs, a cat and our two goats,Mario and Luigi.
I have found that when parents are positive about Pre-school and let their child know that school is great, the child feels good about coming to class.  That makes learning and exploring a wonderful experience.  Parents are always welcome in our classroom.  I encourage you to ask questions or let me know of your concerns.  If there is something you can tell me about your child that will help me get to know them or make them feel more comfortable, please let me know.
I am ready to get started and hope you and your child are ready for a school year full of learning and exploring.
Teacher Kim

Hi Families,
What a fun time we had at the park last week! The kids had a great time and the weather was just perfect. Good thing the end of school is close or other wise the kids would be asking to go there ever week for play time.
Playground clean up was done on Saturday morning. It is looking very neat and tidy and with the new load of gravel we should be all set for the rest of school and summer camp too. Thank you to the few parents that came out to help, we really cant do these things without you!
Here we are in our last full week of class. We will be practicing our “Hungry Caterpillar” play and talking about Graduation. We will be doing a bunch of fun activities in class and finishing up our portfolios. Friday was the last day to borrow books from the classroom bookshelf. If your child still has a book at home in their book bag, please return it to class this week. Also if they still have reading group materials at home, those should be returned as well. When kids turn in all reading group stuff, we will send the folder back home with some summer homework. These papers are just for you to help keep some learning going on over the summer break. They may keep the folder too. The “All about me” posters came home last week for you and your Busy Bee to work on and return to school by Friday the 13 of June. These will be up at graduation, so please get those back to school.
This will be the last week for bikes outside , please take helmets home on your child’s last day. Also be sure and check the lost and found table upstairs for any lost items this year. Any unclaimed jackets hanging in the hall will go up on the table Tuesday AM.
Graduation is next Tuesday, June 17th at 10:30 for the AM class and 1;30 for Afternoon. We are very excited to finally get to this day, the kids have been counting down. Plan on getting here a few minutes before and meeting us upstairs in Jason Lee Hall. We will come up and do some preforming for you, hand out diplomas and then the kids will join you at the table for snacks and a look at their portfolios while we watch the end of the year slideshow.
The summer weather seems to be here and with that comes lots of dresses and skirts for the girls. We would like them to wear something under their dresses, like shorts or bike shorts. Kids at this age have very active play. When they get to big kid school this will also be required as they take PE class and play at recess. Thanks for your cooperation.
All school picnic: LAPSK annual end of the year picnic will be on June 19th from 10:00-1:30 at Felida Park. All classes are welcome to come together and celebrate a great year! The school will provide hot dogs and we will be putting out a sign up sheet for other potluck items soon. We hope you and your family can join us to say good-bye.
LAPSK will be offering Kindergarten for the 2014-2015 school year next Fall!. Please consider this option for your child or let friends know about our great school. It is a small class(15 kids max) and 2 teachers, teaching a regular kindergarten curriculum in a half day setting. This is a great choice for any child but can be a great option for those not quite ready for full days. Let me know if you have more questions about it or I can help you with deciding what is best for your child. Thanks for spreading the word about our great school!
Did you know Little Acorn Preschool has a face book page? Look for the school page and “like” it and enjoy some great posts about all that is happening here at our school. We are also finding that Face book is a nice way to spread the word about the positive experiences families are having here and that is getting others interested in checking out our school. Thank you for all of your support, we couldn’t be so awesome without families like yours!
Summer is coming and so are the great summer camps here at Little Acorn. This year we are offering two weeks of  camp. July 14-18 and 21-25. We are having some fun themes and will be doing tons of water activities, crafts and social play. Hi Families,
Our Math and Science family fun friday night was a great time for everyone able to come. Watching parents and kids exploring math and science activities and enjoying hanging out together was just perfect!
I cant believe we are here in June, with only a few weeks left in our school year. Last week we finished up our learning about the Ocean and its creatures. This week we are going to be working on finishing up the portfolios the kids have been saving work in all year long. They will be ready to take home at Graduation. We have been talking about what Graduation is and why we have it , so we will have some more conversations about that. We are also going to be doing a play at Graduation based on the book “The Hungry Caterpillar”. We will be painting some props and backgrounds for that and practicing how to preform the play.
This is the last week for reading groups. Please send back to school all materials in the reading groups folder after your child completes their homework this week. When all materials are returned your child will get a certificate and a treat for their hard work at reading groups. We will also be sending  back home their folders with some summer homework pages.
On Thursday and Friday this week we will be walking over to Shumway park for our outside playtime. We will switch our playtime to the last part of the day, going to the park from 11 to 11:30 in the morning classes. Remember to sunscreen up your kiddos this week too.
The summer weather seems to be here and with that comes lots of dresses and skirts for the girls. We would like them to wear something under their dresses, like shorts or bike shorts. Graduation will be one day only, Tuesday June 17th. The morning class will be at 10:30 AM . If this is not your child’s regular day please plan on them coming to school this day. The Afternoon class will have Graduation at 1:30. There is a sign up sheet to send a food item and the school will provide the cake and punch. Thanks in advance for helping us make this day special for our Busy Bee’s. We will need some help with set up/clean up if you still need volunteer hours this would be a great time to complete them.
Playground clean up day is coming this Saturday June 7th. We will be doing several projects that we could use some parent volunteer help with. We’ll be painting, pulling weeds, spreading pea gravel and trimming bushes. This is a great time to finish up the required 2 hours per child volunteering commitment for the school year. Or just come help out and hang out with some super fun and very cool teachers who love Little Acorn preschool!
