Hi Families,
Here we are in our last week before Spring break, March went by quickly! We will be wrapping up our talk about earth and our world and spring weather this week. We will be sending home some letter sharing bags this week, help your child find an item that starts with the letter and will fit in the bag. Send it back to school on the next day. We will add the word to our word wall. We didn’t get a chance to do our recycling activity last week, so we’ll slip that in and do some recycled art creations too. Reading groups will be on Monday and Tuesday, so please be sure that reading group folders are at school for those days.
Our new classroom pets are here! We will be meeting our new Gerbils and voting on some names for them this week. They are brothers and are only 2 months old. We will wait a bit before they go home with families so they can get used to being in a new environment. Be sure and come in and see them, they are very cute!
As the end of the school year gets closer, be sure you have completed the 2 hour volunteer hours required. If you are not sure what you have done so far, let me know and we can figure that out. If you have been keeping track at home on a volunteer sheet, please send that back to school so we can add those minutes. We can always use in class helpers, there are sign up sheets in the hallway. Also we will need some parents to help with Graduation in June and a spring playground clean-up
Mark your Calendar for April 19th and join us for the LAPS family breakfast and Art show! This is our way of celebrating families and saying thank you for supporting our school. The event is free and open to all Laps families. We will also be including the silent auction in this event. The auction baskets and other items will be out for viewing and bidding during the week of April 14-18. Then all bids will close at the end of the morning at the breakfast. Also open during this time is the Spring Scholastic book fair. Please try and come by for a quick bite and to throw out some bids on the silent auction and check out the book fair. Proceeds from the auction will be going to classrooms for new materials and toys. Thanks in advance for your support.
It’s getting about that time of the school year when Kindergartens are having their “Kindergarten round-up”. Now is a good time to contact the school your child will be attending in the Fall and find out when they are having theirs. It helps make the transition easier when your child has lots of time to get used to a new school and the idea of big kid school. Visit the playground there, talk about the things that will be similar(outside play, circletime, friends, work time) and the things that may be different(new teacher, riding a bus, bigger school building). Let me know if you need help transitioning your Busy Bee or finding out more about the school your child will be attending. Remember that LAPS is still offering Kindergarten here.

SUMMER CAMP is going to be so fun! We are offering two weeks and 4 fun themes that are sure to be a favorite of your child,Legos, Disney, pirates and princesses and dinosaurs! Summer camp is from 9-12 everyday for the weeks of July 14-18 and 21-25. We will have yummy snacks ,lots of outside/water play and a fun take home souvenir that relates to the theme of the week. Registration forms will be out soon.
Please let us know if you have question or concerns. We are here to help your child and family have a positive school experience and feel supported. Thanks for the privilege of being a part of your child's learning process.

Hi Families,
We are having a great time exploring the weather and spring. We are going to keep up with the theme of spring weather this week and start off the week making “Rainbow cake”. We will also do another science activity and watch a rainbow in a jar. We have been learning about the water cycle and will be doing a few art activities about the way water is cycled around our world. We will be talking about keeping our community clean and what we can do to take care of our world. We’ll be making some litter bags and learning about the planet earth.
Reading groups will be on Mon/Tues again this week. Please send the reading group folder back to school if it is still at home. Having the folder at school on reading group days makes the activity more meaningful and extends the learning at home. The kids really like reading group days and are excited about learning to “read’. Thank you for your support of your Busy Bee !
Classroom Pet update: I am in the process of getting the new pet for our classroom. We are going to get two pets! We are waiting on two baby gerbils that are almost ready to be away from their Mom and come join us. We will be talking about names for them and do some voting on what they should be called. Thank you for all the donations to the baby shower.
Mark your Calendar for April 19 and join us for the LAPS family breakfast and Art show! We’ll have more about this event soon, but is our way of celebrating families and saying thank you for supporting our school. The event is free and open to all Laps families.

We want to remind Parents that kids should be supervised when riding in the elevator here in our building. Kids should not be alone in the elevator at anytime. This is a safety issue so we appreciate your support with this.

Hi Families,
We have a busy week ahead. Reading groups will be on Monday and Tuesday again this week , so be sure your child has returned the folder that went home last week.  Please have your child put their name on their worksheet, its a great habit to get into and it helps me out back at school. I would love to hear your input and help with anything that you and your child are finding challenging about reading groups. We will be participating in the hough neighborhood St Paddys day parade Monday March 17th.Everyone is welcome to join us at the parade, even if this is not your child’s regular day to come to school. Class will let out at 11:30 on this day to give everyone a chance to get to the parade route and get in line. Also, we would encourage you to send a small lunch for your child to school(No nuts or nut products) that we will eat around 11:00 so they wont be hungry when we are waiting and walking during the parade. Then we all meet up in front of Hough Elementary school at 12:00. The parade starts at 12:30 and takes about 45 mins to walk the route. You may bring strollers or wagons and the whole family is invited to come along. The Busy Bee kids can wear their green tie-dyed shirts and any other green attire that they wish, the greener the better! We go rain or shine and have really enjoyed the time with our LAPS family celebrating our great community. Let me know if I can answer any more questions about this.
In class this week we are going to be continuing our unit about spring weather. We will be learning about the water cycle and do some science activities that will help us learn about weather.  We will be painting some spring trees and writing words about spring.

The dinner/auction has not had a very popular response. The low ticket sales has prompted a thought to cancel the event. Please help us get enough interest in this so we can continue with this fundraising evening. We need to sell more tickets so invite your friends, family and neighbors. The auction has many great items and need people to come bid on them! We do have limited childcare still available at a very reasonable price. I know we ask for your support often and appreciate so much what you have done for the class and our school. This is the last fundraising event for the school year and proceeds will be going to classroom materials and scholarships. Thank you in advance for stepping up and giving us your support.

Hi Families,
Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead for daylight savings time!
Last week we talked about money, coin names and value. We set up our “Busy Bee Store” and everyone was super excited to take a turn shopping or working. We will keep it up through this week, so if you have empty boxes of grocery items we would take a few more. This week we are going to be discussing spring weather, rainbows and St. Patricks day. We have some fun art to do and a silly song about St Patricks day to learn.
Reading groups will be on Monday and Tuesday again this week , so be sure your child has returned the folder that went home last week. I have heard that the take home work has been fun for the kids and they are excited to “Read” to you. Remember that kids are on different levels in their skill development and its ok if the are memorizing the books rather than actually reading them, but please encourage pointing at the words together and helping them sound out a few easy ones. Please have your child put their name on their worksheet, its a great habit to get into and it helps me out back at school. I would love to hear your input and help with anything that you and your child are finding challenging about reading groups.
We are almost ready to get a new pet for our classroom! After lots of talks and some great ideas(dog, cat, snake?) I think we have chosen a Hamster. Ivy’s family donated the cage last week and the “Hamster baby shower” sign up sheet is full. As soon as we have all the things we need for keeping a hamster safe and comfortable, I will get one and bring it in. We have been talking about how different this pet will be from Lulu and that it is just a baby. So handling it and having it go home for visits will be a learning process for all. Most important, the kids are excited to have a pet again. Thank you for your support through this, it has helped bunches.
Next Monday, March 17th. We will be participating in the hough neighborhood St Paddys day parade. Class will let out at 11:30 on this day to give everyone a chance to get to the parade route and get in line. Also, we would encourage you to send a small lunch for your child to school(No nuts or nut products) that we will eat around 11:00 so they wont be hungry when we are waiting and walking during the parade. We go rain or shine and have really enjoyed the time with our LAPS family celebrating our great community. Let me know if I can answer any more questions about this.
Our annual school Auction/Dinner is coming soon. Pre-sale tickets are now available until the end of the week. Early bird prices are $15 per person or $25 per couple. Ticket prices will go up on March 17th and will end on the 21st. There are a limited amount of spaces for childcare that evening, check in the preschool office if you are interested in that. The kids are working on some great auction items and we are still in need of donations for the classroom baskets. Even a small item or cash donation is helpful. Thanks for your help making this evening successful.
I want to be sure that everyone is aware of the make up of the snow days for the school year. Our school year has been extended to June 19th. This means that Busy Bee class Graduation will be June 16th and 17th. The morning classes will be at 10:30 and the afternoon class will be on Tuesday at 1:30. We will be singing some songs and celebrating your Busy Bee’s with cake, snacks and a end of year video slideshow. Please mark your calendars!
Summer is  just a dream still, but if you are planning for your kids summer activities, please consider having them come to LAPS 2 weeks of summer camp in July. We offer fun themes, yummy snacks and lots of outside play and exploration. Summer camp is from 9-12 everyday for the weeks of July 14-18 and 21-25. Registration forms and more info coming soon!
Please let us know if you have question or concerns. We are here to help your child and family have a positive school experience and feel supported. Thanks for the privilege of being a part of your child's learning process.

Hi Families,
Here we are in March and ready to move into some new learning themes. After finishing up our unit about keeping healthy last week, we will be exploring money next. We’ll be talking about what the different kinds of coins are called and their value, we’ll be sorting coins, learn some songs about them and do some creative writing about what we would “save” our money to buy. Having some conversations at home about money, coins and saving would be a great bridge to what we’’ll be doing in class. To go along with our money learning, we will be setting up a “Store” in our class to get our imaginations working. We could use some empty boxes of grocery items to stock our shelves. Thanks for your help.
Reading groups will start this week on Monday and Tuesday during our time in small groups. The kids and I will “read” a book together and then they will bring that book home to read to/with you. It will come home in a folder along with a game or worksheet to do at home. The next school day they should bring the folder back to school with everything inside. Each week they will get new material sent home to work on. If the folder is not returned before the next reading group, they still participate in the reading group time, but aren’t getting to take home anything until the folder has been returned. I have a limited amount of readers that go home and really need them for the next group. We will continue with these reading groups through The first week in June. Thanks for your cooperation with this and for helping make this an exciting and important part of your child’s school experience.
March is here and we are hoping to get a jump on our classroom action basket. The AM class is putting together a “Date night” basket. There is an info sheet out in the hallway to let you know the items needed or if you want to donate money towards the basket. The Afternoon class will be doing a basket with a family “Get moving” theme, watch for an info sheet about that. The Auction/Dinner is Saturday March 29th. Watch for ticket info coming soon. There will be Childcare offered for this night ,but space is limited. Please consider joining us and supporting our school. It is a fun night out without your kids and a chance to talk to other adults without interruptions and maybe get some great silent auction deals. Thanks in advance for all your help with this event.
Mark your calendars for Monday March 17th and join Little acorn preschool as we celebrate St. Paddy’s Day and our community. We will be walking in the Hough neighborhood parade. All little acorn families are welcome to come walk with us. Strollers and wagons are welcome and lots of green decorations! We have been doing this for several years and it has always been a fun event. More info about time/meeting place to come in the next few weeks.
Just a reminder about volunteer hours: You are required to do 2 hours per child, one can be classroom help and the other should be help with an event here at school. The auction/Dinner is a great place to get your time in. Check the preschool office door to sign up.
Another issue that has come up is the make up of the snow days for the school year.
