Busy Bee Newsletter For Dec 15-19

Hi Families,
Last week-Thank you for helping make our winter concerts a big success! We love seeing the families come out and enjoy the evening. Also thank you for the huge support during the scholastic Book sale. We had several books donated from the “wish list”. Did you know that when you buy books, the classroom earns free books? Thanks again for making books important to  our students.
The kids brought home their “surprises’ for their families last week. They may give them to whomever they wish and whenever they wish. These gifts were made with love, we hope you enjoy them.
This time of year can be very exciting for kids, schedules are disrupted, bedtimes are pushed back due to holiday fun and of course the anticipation of Santa and presents can be overwhelming. Remember to keep some sort of schedule if possible and expect some wild behavior. Thats what our plan is this week in class!
This week- We are starting off the week making some candy houses. Please remember to send in whatever you signed up for. We will be making them mon/Tues with each Busy Bee making only one house. We will hopefully get to spend some time with outside play, the kids seem to need extra this time of year, so dress for the weather.
On Wednesday we will walk across the street to visit at Kindred and sing some songs to the Grandmas and Grandpas. Parents are always welcome to come along.
We will be doing a countdown to Christmas activity and keep our work time full of the holiday theme. Read below to find out about the Classroom holiday party.
Classroom holiday party- This Friday Dec. 19th we will have a day of fun as we celebrate the holiday with a party during class. Please send the items you signed up for on the  sign up sheet. During our party we will do a book gift exchange. Each Busy Bee needs to bring a new $5 wrapped book with their name on the “from” . We will each have a chance to pick a book and then open it and thank the person who it was from. This is a great way to learn about giving and getting gifts and how to be happy with what we have.

Fundraisers-LAPSK is a non profit preschool, fundraising is an important piece to our program. Our current fundraisers are Fred Meyers gives back to schools! Go to https://www.fredmeyer.com/topic/community-rewards-4  to register your rewards card and give back to Little Acorn Preschool and Kindergarten. Shoparoo.com and also Box tops for Education.
Sick kids- The cold/flu season is upon us and we want to keep our classroom as germ free as possible. We will be disinfecting and cleaning on a daily basis. You can help by having your Busy Bee wash hands before coming into class and keeping them home if they are showing signs of illness. We would like to keep track of illness, so giving the office a quick call to let us know or sending me a text or email would be helpful. Thanks for helping us keep a healthy environment to play and learn in.
Volunteering: If you would like to volunteer in class and come see what your Busy Bee is doing, we would love to have you. I usually have some easy task that needs done, repairing books or prepping for upcoming activities. Your time in class is very helpful and you get a chance to see what our day is like and how your child is interacting. There is a sign up sheet in the hallway for dates/times. Thanks in advance for your support.
Contact info: Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns. I am fine with a text or a call or you can email. I am here to help you and your child have a great school year and feel honored that you have chosen us for your family’s preschool experience.

Busy Bee Newsletter For Dec 1-5

Hi Families,
Last week-I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday and made some memories with their families. In our short two days in class , we finished up thankfulness, turkeys and the month of November. Thank you to all who helped make our bake sale a success, wether you sent in a treat or bought some. We have the best families here at Little Acorn!
This week- December has arrived and things get busy! This week we will talk about our new month and the holiday coming up. We will be learning about traditions that go with the holiday of Christmas. Trees, presents, special food and treats. If your family has a tradition that could be shared with us by coming to class or by sending something that represents your tradition, we would love to hear and learn about it. My Family makes special cookies called “Pizzelle” each christmas season that I will be bringing in to share. Maybe you have a special book, ornament or candle that is part of your family traditions that could be shared.
We also will be practicing for the Winter program coming up next week, please let me know if your child will not be here for that evening of songs and holiday fun.
Another project we will be doing for the next few weeks is working on some “surprise” gifts for our families.
School closures-We are in the wintery season and need to be aware of the weather and possible closures. We want to keep everyone safe. Please know that we want to be at school, we have lots to do and don’t like to miss days. Thanks for your patiences and understanding. School closures will be sent through an email or the “remind” text message system, being on these lists will help ensure you have the latest news.
Santa Breakfast-This Saturday December 6th we will be hosting a Santa Breakfast! Tickets are on sale now, they will be $3 for kids,$5 for adults and will include pancakes, sausage, fruit and coffee/milk. Also each child will get a gift and photo with Santa. This is a great way to get in the holiday mood and support out school! We also need some volunteers to make this happen, if you need to get some hours in this is a great way.
Food drive-Our school is partnering with the church in this years food drive. We will have a box in our classroom for your child to bring in a few cans of food or other non perishable to donate to the food boxes the church gives out during the holiday season. The food drive continues through December.
Winter concert- The Busy Bee class will join the kindergarten, sunshine and star classes for our annual winter concert on Monday December 8th, at 6:00pm. We will be singing some songs together and then watching a slideshow. The Scholastic book fair will also be open that evening. Be sure and invite the family to come watch your Busy Bee and enjoy some holiday festivities.
Class size-Several families mentioned adding another day to their child’s week after the winter break. We have 3 new students starting in January so I wanted to be sure any families who want to add a day get that chance before our class fills up. Letting me know so I can save that space or calling the preschool office and talking to Katie would be great. Remember we are still doing the Spanish lesson each Friday with Teacher Caroline.

Busy Bee Newsletter For Nov 24-28

Hi Families,
Last week-What a busy week we had! We started off the week with a cooking project, we made cinnamon bread(aka: Turkey bread). We finished up houses and did a bunch of Turkey projects. We have been working on number recognition and writing, so if you have some time at home and want to practice some of that with your child, that would be great. We talked about being thankful and what that means and then on Friday, learned the Spanish words for our family. The kids are also practicing the songs we will be singing at the winter concert. The song at the end of the newsletter this week is our classrooms song, then we will join other classes to sing more.
This week-We only have two days this week so we are going to be trying to pack in some activities. The kids may even take home a few things to do over the break for fun. We are making some cute turkey headbands and a Thanksgiving card to give to our families. Please stop by the bake sale and take home a treat for your holiday gathering or feel free to send in some baked goodies that we can sell.
Santa Breakfast-On Saturday December 6th we will be hosting a Santa Breakfast! Busy Bee Newsletter For Nov 10-14

Hi Families,
There is No Class on Tuesday November 11th in honor of Veterans Day
Last week-We started talking about homes and families. The “My Family” page went home with kids. Let the kids help you fill it out and get those back to school this week. Parent/Teacher conferences were great! I really enjoy this time to get to know your family and talk about your Busy Bee. Thank you so much for taking time to come in and for your support of our classroom and school. We have the best families ever.
This week-We are going to be building our own houses with wood and lots of glue. When they dry we’ll paint them and write some stories about who lives in them and what they are like. The kids get so much out of this project, I have to say this is one of my favorites too. We are going to talk about the letter H and write the word house. On Thursday, we will have a fun science activity. Ben’s Mom is donating her time and supplies for this great project. Last month she brought in the volcano pumpkins. Thanks Christina!
The Busy Bee Class goes outside every day unless it is raining during our time to play. This means the playground could be wet, there may be water puddles and your kids might come in a bit dirty. As aways you should help your child dress for the weather and wear shoes that can get wet. The playroom is great when its pouring and we need to burn off some energy, but outside is much better for these big kids. Thanks for your support!
Food drive-Our school is partnering with the church in this years food drive. We will have a box in our classroom for your child to bring in a few cans of food or other non perishable to donate to the food boxes the church gives out during the holiday season. The food drive continues through December.
LAPSK Board-I’m not sure if everyone knows, but our school is supported by a board of church members and parents. This week on Thursday you have a chance to meet them and share any thoughts, ideas or even a thank you for all they do. It will be from 9:00-11:00 in the Conrad room upstairs.
Family Fun Night-On Nov. 20th we will be having our first family fun night of the school year. This month it is a “Make and take holiday craft night” . Busy Bee Newsletter For Nov 3-7

Hi Families,
Last week-What a fun way to wrap up the month of October! We talked about real and pretend things and put a page in our portfolios about it. We made some really fun monsters and did some creative writing about them. Then at the end of the week we finished up with our Classroom party. The party was great, the kids looked awesome in their costumes and everyone had a good time. Thanks so much for helping make the day a fun one for our class. We also want to welcomed two new Busy Bees to our Class, Charlie started last week, and we welcome Hunter who starts this week.
This week-As we begin November, we are going to talk about families and homes. Everyone has a family and a place to live, but not all are the same. The kids will be bringing home a “My Family” page to complete at home. We will be making a class book out of the pages and then putting them in portfolios at the end of the school year. We will be learning about different kinds of homes and be building some of our own out of wood and glue. This week will be short one due to Conference day and the No school on Friday.
