Busy Bee Newsletter For April 27-May 1

Hi Families,
Last week-It was a great week celebrating the earth we live on, the kids learned about recycling and why its important, we talked about different ways to help make our world better and we had an awesome lesson about worms from Teacher Amber. We finished off the week by eating dirt cups, a yummy snack we made to learn about different layers of the ground below.
This week-The next few weeks we are going to be learning all we can about the Butterfly. We have our cup that has the caterpillars in it that we are watching. They have already changed from tiny to bigger and now we will watch for the next change. As we learn about the changes we have lots of fun art and learning activities planned. If your child has something to share related to our learning about caterpillars/butterflies(Book, toy, etc.) that they would like to share, they may bring it any time.
I(Teacher Kim) will be out of class from Thursday this week through May 8th. I will be having some minor surgery on my knee, but I am planning on getting back into class as soon as possible. Teacher Amber will be leading the class and have assistant help from Shannon. I will be talking to the kids about being gone and assure them that I’ll be back and that they will do everything just like always. Any questions or concerns may be addressed with Amber during the time I’m away. Thanks for your support and cooperation.
Reading groups- Our group reading time is going good. The kids are excited for the chance to take home their folders and “read” to you at home. Please remember that every child progresses at their own speed. These reading groups are an intro to what to expect in Kindergarten. We want to get a good positive feeling about reading and so we want to encourage any progress. Thank you for helping get materials back to school each week, thats a huge help.
May Field trip-Our school will be attending a play on Tuesday, May 19th. We will be seeing “Seussiscal Jr.” presented by Journey Theatre. It will be at Fort Vancouver High School at 9:30 Am. Tickets are $6 per person and can be paid to me in the classroom or in the preschool office. As always with field trips, parents are responsible for transportation and supervision of their child. Watch for a sign up sheet to let us know if you/your Busy Bee will be joining us.If this is not your child’s regular day to come to school, you are still welcomed and encouraged to come. There will be no class that day.
Gerbils-The classroom pets are in need of some families to take care of them over the weekends for the rest of the school year. They are easy to keep, no handling is required or cage cleaning. The sign up sheet is in the hallway.
Kindergarten orientation-As we roll into spring , be aware of when the Kindergarten orientation is for the school your child will attend in the Fall. Most schools have one in April/May to get families ready for what to expect and give the kids a chance to see the big kid school and gain some familiarity with the building/staff. You can contact the school or check the districts website for date/times. Let me know if you have any questions about this next step in your child’s learning experience.
Volunteering: If you would like to volunteer in class and come see what your Busy Bee is doing, we would love to have you. I usually have some easy task that needs done, repairing books or prepping for upcoming activities. Your time in class is very helpful and you get a chance to see what our day is like and how your child is interacting. There is a sign up sheet in the hallway for dates/times.  Remember that each family is required to do 2 hours of volunteering per child during the school year.
Contact info: Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns. I am fine with a text or a call or you can email. I am here to help you and your child have a great school year and feel honored that you have chosen us for your family’s preschool experience.

Busy Bee Newsletter For April 20-24

Hi Families,
Last week-It was a busy crazy week, we had great guests come talk to the kids. We had fun yummy snacks and got back to work on our planting/springtime theme.
We want to say a big thanks to you Busy Bee families for supporting the Auction/dinner at Big lAs. It was a fun night with lots of food, drink and bidding on some great auction items. We would love to hear feedback about the event and any suggestions to make it even better for next year.
This week-We will be wrapping up our spring theme with some earth day projects and talking about taking care of the planet. We’ll have our cooking project for the month on Thursday and Friday, when we make edible “cups of dirt”. The kids have been watching their seeds grow and we will be sending those home for planting in the ground. We will also walk across the street to Kindred to sing to the Grandmas and Grandpas on Wednesday.
We will be continuing the lose change drive for Childhood cancer research this week. We would love to fill our bucket with change so have the kids bring in those pennies!

Busy Bee Newsletter For April 13-17

Hi Families,
Last week-Hopefully everyone enjoyed the week off and the break from routines to have some fun. When we left school last we were thinking all about planting, spring and things that grow. We will be continuing on with this as we head back in to the classroom.
*Important-The elevator in the building will be out of order this week as they wait on the replacement part to repair it. Please remember that the elevator is for strollers, wheelchairs or folks that cannot do the stairs. Kids should never be on it without an adult and we would encourage you to have your kids with you, using the stairs before and after school. Thanks for your help and sorry for the inconvenience during repairs this week.
This week-We have a very busy week back to school! It is our schools annual celebration of children we call “The week of the young child”. It will be full of special guests and snacks each day. Also we will have a “Theme” each day to show our school spirit! Here is the run-down: Monday-Silly hair Tuesday-Silly socks/silly hair Wednesday-Hat day Thursday-Stripes and dots Friday-Favorite color day. Have your Busy bee join us in the fun and wear the theme of the day.
We will also continue on with our regular classroom activities and talk about Earth day, how to keep our planet green and growing. We will do an activity about recycling and why its important. We would like to create some recycled art and could use some clean, not to big items that you may have around the house(plastic, paper, cans, lids, boxes, etc..) We will be planting some corn and beans and talking some more about what they need to grow.
Reading groups- Your Busy Bee will be bringing home a folder with a book in it that we have read as a small group. At home we would like you to have your child”read” this book to you and help them complete any worksheets or games that are in the folder. Then All materials need to be returned to school. Everyone will do one reading group a week. Your support of this activity will be important to how much your child gets out of it. Please take time to do the reading, game or work in the folder and then help return it to school.
LAPSK Auction Night-Tickets are still on sale for our Fun Auction night at Big Al’s on April 18th from 5-8pm, that is this coming Saturday. With your ticket you will get dinner/drink and a coupon for bowling(to be used with your family at the next visit). This is a grown-up only evening. We have so many great silent auction items, you are sure to get a great deal and support our school all at once. You can get a ticket from the preschool office or from me in the classroom. Be sure and check out our classroom baskets and the other baskets that will be up for silent auction all week until the event on Saturday night, they will be up by the preschool office. There will also be a canvas that the kids created that will be up for silent auction all week until Friday at Noon. It will be outside our classroom.
This event/auction this year will be raising funds for a new outdoor sign,a fantastic piece of equipment for the playground, as well as supporting our scholarship program.
Kindergarten orientation-As we roll into spring , be aware of when the Kindergarten orientation is for the school your child will attend in the Fall. Most schools have one in April/May to get families ready for what to expect and give the kids a chance to see the big kid school and gain some familiarity with the building/staff.
