Busy Bee Newsletter For June 1-5

Hi Families,
Last week-We have been doing lots of pages in our portfolios so that we can  see the progress in work since the start of the school year. We have done a fun “This summer” page to get thinking about what to do over the summer break and a journal page about “Our favorite part of the school year”. The portfolios are such a great keepsake for your kids time here in preschool and they are excited to show them to you at Graduation.
This week- We will finish up the work in our portfolios and make some headbands that we will wear during our play on Graduation. We will be practicing our play and the songs we will sing for our families.
We will not be doing book bags any longer, please send back all Busy Bee Class books you may have at home. These books are used year after year on the classroom bookshelf and are a very important part of the classroom. If you are unable to find the book your child brought home, please plan on replacing it with a book similar to the borrowed one. Let me know if you have questions about this.
Reading groups-Please be sure All materials are returned to school. I use these each year and it is hard when some books/games are not returned. Thank you for your cooperation!
Graduation Program- *(Please note the time change)It will be on Friday June 5th @ 9:30am. If this is not your child’s regular day to attend class, please plan on bringing them at 9:00 like a regular day and joining us for Graduation at 9:30. We will sing some songs for you and put on a short play “The very Hungry Caterpillar”. Then we will present certificates and the kids will join you for cake and punch and to show you their portfolio they’ve been working on all year. To end our program, we will show a slide show of the year. The whole thing will last around an hour. We do have to be careful on our seating in Jason Lee Hall, so please be aware of the number of family you are inviting. If you are unable to join us this day, please let me know ahead of time. This is an important day, the kids are going to be excited to share it with you. Due to having to change the time we have decided to keep the food part easy and will be serving cake, punch and some fruit. If you had originally signed up for something there will be no need of that. If you would like to help clean up after or would like to donate some fruit, just let me know. When the Graduation program is over the kids are dismissed, we will not be going back to class this day.
Last two days/Room cleaning- On the last two days in the classroom, Mon/Tues June 8/9, we will have regular class time. The kids will help us out by cleaning toys and taking down bulletin board stuff. All who help get some ice cream when we finish! I have found these are great days for the kids to get some closure on the year and give back to the class by helping.
All School Picnic-On June 10th we will be having our annual end of the school year picnic at Felida Park from 10:00-12:00. All families are invited and will have potluck style food . Watch for a sign up sheet going out for that. The School will cook/provide the hot dogs and condiments.
Summer Camp-Little Acorn will be offering three weeks of summer camp this year. The first week will be June 15-19th and will be themed “Art Explosion” The next week (July 13-17) will have the theme of Knights, princesses and dragons! The last week(July 20-24) will be Super hero week. Registration forms are out. Camps can fill up quickly, so be sure and get your registration forms in to secure your child’s spot. I will be teaching at the summer camps in July and would love to see your kids for some fun. Anyone can join us for the camps , even if they did not attend LAPSK, so invite your friends kids and all the neighborhood. We put on a fun camp!
Fall 2015-Please spread the word that we still have space in our classrooms for next Fall. Our Kindergarten class is taking students as well. Busy Bee Newsletter For May 25-29

Hi Families,
Last week-We have had lots of fun with the Ocean theme, the kids have done a great job giving their “reports” to the class. Its not to late to have them bring it back. The ocean in a cup was a big hit. We also watched and read the story “Rainbow Fish” it has a great lesson to learn in it about sharing.
This week- I cant really believe we are almost to the end of the year. This week the Busy Bee’s will be working on the play we will be doing for you at graduation. We’ll also be doing some last papers for  portfolios and talking about the end of school, graduation and the move to Kindergarten. This time of year is full of transitions and change, this can sometimes bring out some worry in kids or behaviors out of the norm. Just keep the communication open and give plenty of chances to talk about what summer will be like and then what next Fall holds. You have great kids and I’m so proud of each of them.
We are going to walk to the park this week so some of the kids who missed the last park trip get a chance to go. On Wednesday, we will head over around  11:00 and have our play time there. We will be back to school in time for pick up at 12:00. If your child comes this day, please have them wear shoes for running and sunscreen.
Reading groups-If your Child’s day is Tuesday, then this week will be their last week. Last Monday was the last week for that groups as well. Please be sure All materials are returned to school. I use these each year and it is hard when some books/games are not returned. Thank you for your cooperation!

Last week-We have created an ocean in our classroom! The kids painted the background and made some shells, seaweed and jellyfish. This week we will keep adding to it. Come on in and have your child show you what we’ve been doing. We did a writing activity where we answered the question “If I lived in the ocean I would be........” The kids had some great ideas and drew pictures of them.
Thank you to the families that came out to help us at Playground clean-up on Saturday. Our play space is looking good. We have a full box of sand, the pinecones picked up and the weeds and trees trimmed back.
This week- We are learning more about the ocean. Be sure and have your Busy Bee work on their “report” that went home last week. They should find out 3 things about their ocean animal and a picture. Then they will bring the report back to school and tell the class about it.

Busy Bee Newsletter For May 11-15

Hi Families,
Last week-The Busy Bee kids had a great week creating some special things for their Moms. I love the questionnaire about their Mom, its always fun to see what the think when asked about Mom. We hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day and enjoyed the gifts!
Last week was also filled with all things Butterfly. Our Caterpillars made the great transformation inside their chrysalis and emerged as amazing Butterflies! They were let go over at the park on Friday and are now out there in the world flying around.
This week-We are moving on to a new learning theme. We will be exploring the Ocean and all the creatures that call it home. This will be our last theme of the school year. To start our learning we are going to make a giant ocean mural in our classroom by painting some paper ocean blue. As the days go by we will add to our ocean, creatures, shells and plants. Another fun project will be the ocean animal reports that the kids will be bringing home. They will choose an animal to learn 3 things about and either draw a picture or find one from the internet or in a book. When they have done their research, they bring it back to school and tell the class at circle time what they learned. These report projects are great for helping kids discover where they can find information about something they want to learn about and how to talk in front of the group. Please let your child take the lead on this and “help” but not “do” the project for them. Thanks in advance for your support of this activity.
Reading groups- We will be finishing up reading groups the last week of May. I would really like to get the most out of the last few weeks, so please help your child by getting the folder back to school so they can get new materials each week.
May Field trip-Our school will be attending a play on Tuesday, May 19th. We will be seeing “Seussiscal Jr.” presented by Journey Theatre. It will be at Fort Vancouver High School at 9:30 Am or 11:45 am. They have given us some seats in the 11:45 show , due to the earlier one selling out. Let us know if the 11:45 time works better for you. Tickets are $6 per person and need to be paid for by Wednesday of this week. As always with field trips, parents are responsible for transportation and supervision of their child.
The theatre group is sending out a few performers from the play on Wednesday this week. They will talk to the kids about the show and also about how to be a good audience during the play.
Family Fun night-There will be one more Family Fun night for the year on May 21st from 5:30-7:00pm. We will be exploring Math and science on this night and will offer lots of hands on activities for the whole family. This is a free event, we hope your family will come join the fun.
Volunteering: Remember that each family is required to do 2 hours of volunteering per child during the school year. If you still need to fulfill your hours you have a few more chances.
We will have a playground clean-up day on Saturday May 16th from 9-11am. We could use help weeding, spreading gravel, trimming bushes, etc. Also, we could use some help with the planning and setup/clean up of our Graduation program in June. Let me know if you are interested in helping with these two events.
Summer Camp-Little Acorn will be offering three weeks of summer camp this year. The first week will be June 15-19th and will be themed “Art Explosion” The next week (July 13-17) will have the theme of Knights, princesses and dragons! Let me know if you have any questions.
Fundraisers-Its not to late to grab a few items from the Scentsy fundraiser, watch for the  table upstairs to try out some scents and see what is available.
Contact info: Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns. I am fine with a text or a call or you can email. I am here to help you and your child have a great school year and feel honored that you have chosen us for your family’s preschool experience.

Last week-We learned about the life cycle of a Butterfly, with lots of focus on the caterpillar stage. Our classroom caterpillars are all in their Chrysalis stage and we are watching closely for the next change, a butterfly! We are working on some great Mother’s day “surprises” that will be going home at the end of the week to celebrate Mother’s Day.
This week-We continue on with the learning of Butterflies, doing some patterning, counting and writing about butterflies and caterpillars. We are learning a song as well that teaches the life cycle. On the dry days, the bikes/scooters will be out, so send a helmet for your child if they want to ride. The Busy Bee class will walk over to the park by the Arts School on Friday during our playground time 11:00-11:45. Parents are welcome to join us if you like.
I (Teacher Kim) will be out of class this week recovering from knee surgery, but may be in at the end of the week to do some progress report assessments.
