Busy Bee Newsletter For March 30-April 3

Hi Families,
Last week- Spring weather and growing flowers was on our agenda last week. We did some great learning about wind with an experiment where we used our own wind to blow objects. We made kites and used our imagination to make pictures of what we see in the clouds. The kids all brought home their flower reports to work on at home. They should bring them back when they have learned about their flower and made a picture of it. They will tell the class what they have learned and then we’ll put them in their portfolio.
Little Acorn preschool and Kindergarten was voted “Best preschool” of clark county by the Columbian newspaper! We are so excited about this honor and have been getting a lot of interest on Facebook about our school. You can check out all the winners http://bestofclarkcounty.com/winners/2015.
This week-We will keep with our spring flower theme and do some fun art projects about flowers this week. We will also make rainbow cake this week, as last week it did not fit into plans, so cooking on Mon/Tues. Hopefully at the end of the week we will go on a “Looking for spring” walk around our school, if we get a day without too much rain. The kids are going to plant some seeds that they’ll bring home to watch for sprouting and for your family to plant when they are ready.
*Next week April 6-10 will be Spring break and there will be no school.
Reading groups- Your Busy Bee will be bringing home a folder with a book in it that we have read as a small group. At home we would like you to have your child”read” this book to you and help them complete any worksheets or games that are in the folder. Then All materials need to be returned to school. Everyone will do one reading group a week. Your support of this activity will be important to how much your child gets out of it. Please take time to do the reading, game or work in the folder and then help return it to school. I’d love to get your feedback on this activity and how your child is doing with the material at home. It helps me know if they need a bit more to do or maybe bring things down a notch and simplify. Thank you so much for the support.
Fundraisers-LAPSK is a non profit preschool, fundraising is an important piece to our program. We are hopeful that with a variety of fundraisers your family will find one that is the right fit for you and you can help support our fantastic school. Our current fundraisers are Fred Meyers gives back to schools! Go to https://www.fredmeyer.com/topic/community-rewards-4  to register your rewards card and give back to Little Acorn Preschool and Kindergarten. And Shoparoo.com that is any easy way to earn money for our school right on your smart phone.
LAPSK Auction Night-Tickets are on sale for our Fun Auction night at Big Al’s on April 18th from 5-8pm. With your ticket you will get dinner/drink and a coupon for bowling(to be used with your family at the next visit). This is a grown-up only evening. We need some more help with the auction baskets that the Busy Bee Class is doing. Our themes are  “Superhero basket” and a “local Craft Beer Basket”. If you have not contributed to either of these but are planning to, we need all items by March 30th.
Volunteering: If you would like to volunteer in class and come see what your Busy Bee is doing, we would love to have you. I usually have some easy task that needs done, repairing books or prepping for upcoming activities. Your time in class is very helpful and you get a chance to see what our day is like and how your child is interacting. There is a sign up sheet in the hallway for dates/times.  Remember that each family is required to do 2 hours of volunteering per child during the school year.

Busy Bee Newsletter For March 16-20

Hi Families,
Last week-We wrapped up time and money learning last week. I love to see when kids start thinking about things and getting a little bit of understanding, just the tip of the iceberg so  to speak. That really is what we do here, lots of introduction to ideas and concepts that they will be mastering in the next few years. Hopefully you are seeing some growth and progress in your Busy Bee. I just love this time of the school year! Be sure and read further down about reading groups and what a busy next few weeks we have.
This week-We couldn’t get through this week without doing a few fun activities that celebrate St. Paddy’s Day! So we will learn a fun rhyming song, count and hunt for leprechauns. We will also have a fun science discovery activity with Christina(Ben’s Mom) all about rocks and formations.
This week we are creating some fantastic art to display at our Art show/Family breakfast this Saturday, so be sure and plan on joining us!
The Busy Bee kids have shown some interest in flowers and growing things, which is great for this time of year and our early springtime happening. So for the few weeks we are going to explore flowers/springtime/growing. We will be planting some seeds, learning about what plants need to grow and even doing a “report” on a flower! Watch for more in the next few weeks.
Reading groups- Your Busy Bee will be bringing home a folder with a book in it that we have read as a small group. At home we would like you to have your child”read” this book to you and help them complete any worksheets or games that are in the folder. Then All materials need to be returned to school. You may also want to bring your child a lunch to eat before we walk , since it is during a normal lunchtime. It starts right in front of Hough Elementary school and goes in a loop through the neighborhood and onto main street then back to the school. It is a very easy walk and strollers are welcomed. Please consider coming with your family and showing support for our school by joining us in the parade. As always, parents are responsible for transportation and supervision of their children during these events.

Busy Bee Newsletter For March 9-13

Hi Families,

This week-We are going to keep with our time and money learning this week. We will be making clocks so we can start to get familiar with the parts of a clock and how they help us as we move through our day. We will be sorting daytime activities and nighttime activities during a group time. Our creative writing will be about “My Favorite time of day” as the kids give some thought to the different parts of their day. Reading groups will start this week and continue until the end of May. We go outside every day that it is not raining, so please help your Busy Bee to have the best clothes/jacket/shoes for the weather of the day.

Busy Bee Newsletter For March 2-6

Hi Families,
Last week-The Busy Bee’s are having a great time “Shopping” in our classroom store, we’ll keep it up again this week. We have had some good conversations about healthy bodies and have talked about healthy food and junk food.
Family Fun night was awesome, we had lots of families come out and celebrate Dr. Seuss with us. We love to see everyone and enjoy watching our school community come together and support our kids. If you were not able to come this time, mark your Calendar for our Family Breakfast and art show later this month on Saturday the 21st.
This week-We are going to be wrapping up our healthy bodies learning with a fun cooking project on Monday and Tuesday. We will be making an “edible rainbow” and then learn how to eat a rainbow everyday. Hopefully we will encourage trying some new foods and thinking about what foods do for our bodies.
We will also be introducing our unit on Money and Time this week. We will be talking about the names of the different coins and will be doing counting and sorting activities. We will be learning about clocks and what the hands do on them and talk about different times of the day.
We will be doing some letter sharing once again. This time the kids are bringing home a “Letter sharing bag”. This bag needs to come back to school on the next school day with something that begins with the letter on the bag. We will reuse these bags, so returning them to school in a timely manner will be important.
Reading groups-We are getting ready to begin reading groups starting March 9th. Your Busy Bee will be bringing home a folder with a book in it that we have read as a small group. At home we would like you to have your child”read” this book to you and help them complete any worksheets or games that are in the folder. Then All materials need to be returned to school. Everyone will do one reading group a week. Your support of this activity will be important to how much your child gets out of it. Sick kids- The cold/flu season is upon us and we want to keep our classroom as germ free as possible. We will be disinfecting and cleaning on a daily basis. You can help by having your Busy Bee wash hands before coming into class and keeping them home if they are showing signs of illness. We would like to keep track of illness, so giving the office a quick call to let us know or sending me a text or email would be helpful. Thanks for helping us keep a healthy environment to play and learn in.
Volunteering: If you would like to volunteer in class and come see what your Busy Bee is doing, we would love to have you.
