Busy Bee Newsletter For Oct. 20-24

Hi Families,
Last week-We had some fun at the pumpkin patch/farm fieldtrips. I think Thursday had the sun, but we were happy with no rain on Friday. Everyone seemed to enjoy this new to us pumpkin patch. We would love to hear feedback either way to help with next years trip. Thanks for bringing your kids out and braving the mud.
This week-We are going to keep with some October themes this week and learn about Bats and spiders. We have some fun art to create and will learn about what habitats they live in. With the Halloween season all around us, we are going to be talking about “real and not real”. Bats and spiders are real, monsters and ninja turtles are not.  We were given a pumpkin to bring back to our classroom and we will be pounding golf tees into it. This is always a favorite activity and gives the kids a chance to practice hammering in a safe way. We have been talking about all the things that you can make to eat out of pumpkins and will try out making mini pumpkin pies this week for our October cooking project,Yum!
Fundraisers-LAPSK is a non profit preschool, fundraising is an important piece to our program. Our current fundraisers are Kiggins Theatre, Usbrone book efair, scholastic books, Scentsy and box tops for education. (100% os scentsy sales are given to the school) The Scentsy fundraiser ends this week, get your order forms back by the 21st.
Family photos- We have a parent-photographer who is offering Family Pictures to the first 4 or 5 families that sign up.  She will donate 100% of the funds back to us!Pictures will be $150 for a 30 minute session on 11/8 from 9-11. A flier will go into cubbies, first come first serve.
Thank you for supporting our school and making it a great place for kids to grow and learn!
Trunk or treat-The Church is sponsoring a fun family event called “Trunk or treat” on Sunday October 26th. The Parking lot will be filled with folks and their decorated “Trunks” for your kids to trick or treat at. LAPSK will have a trunk and the teachers will be dressed in costumes. Watch for a flyer in your kids cubbie box with the full info.
Classroom Halloween party-The Busy Bee class will have its party on Friday, October 31st. The kids can come to school in their costumes(Non-scary and no weapons). We will be walking across the street to Kindred to parade through and show the grandmas and grandpas how great we look in our costumes. Then we will have some party snacks and play some fun games. Watch for a sign up sheet to send a food item.
Fall parent/Teacher conferences-On November 6th there will be no class as we take time to have parent/teacher conferences. This is a great time to talk about how your child is adjusting to our classroom and to discuss goals for the rest of the school year. There is a sign up sheet for a time in the hallway.A paper will be coming home for you to let me know of questions or concerns you have that you would like to discuss at conference time. If the days/times set up don’t work out for your family, please let me know and we can figure out another time/day. Thanks in advance for taking the time to meet and help give your Busy Bee the best school experience possible.
Sick kids- The cold/flu season is upon us and we want to keep our classroom as germ free as possible. We will be disinfecting and cleaning on a daily basis. You can help by having your Busy Bee wash hands before coming into class and keeping them home if they are showing signs of illness. We would like to keep track of illness, so giving the office a quick call to let us know or sending me a text or email would be helpful. Thanks for helping us keep a healthy environment to play and learn in.
Classroom Volunteering: Now that we have been in school almost a month, most kids have settled in. If you would like to volunteer in class and come see what your Busy Bee is doing, we would love to have you. I usually have some easy task that needs done, repairing books or prepping for upcoming activities. Your time in class is very helpful and you get a chance to see what our day is like and how your child is interacting. There is a sign up sheet in the hallway for dates/times. Thanks in advance for your support.
